1. Sparkling lips, as seen at Sophia Webster, Atelier Versace, Fendi

This glittery trend was first seen at Atelier Versace when world-renowned make-up artist Pat McGrath sent models down
the runway with bright red glistening lips.

Top tip: While Pat used a top coat of her own brand of microfine glitter to create her shimmering look, a layer of glitter eyeshadow applied over your lipstick and finished with a layer of clear gloss will give the same effect. If that’s too daring, a glitter gloss will also work.

2. Arty eyeliner, as seen at Oscar de la Renta, Kenzo, Simone Rocha

Eyeliner has got creative this winter, with designers showing graphic liner creations. If you’re thinking ‘where do
I even start?’ then opt for a classic winged liner – always in the darkest black of course.

Top tip: When applying pencil liner always use a sharpened brush to get a defined look. Only use liquid on your upper eyes and be sure that the line is thick enough to be seen fully when your eyes are open.

3. Glittery eyes, as seen at Burberry, Giambattista Valli, Jenny Packham

Don’t be afraid to go over the top – as we saw on the catwalk, you can never have too much sparkle. Gold, silver and colour glitter are all on trend and there are a number of ways to create the look. Try glitter shadow or gel on your eyelids, or liner above or below the eye to create a subtle look. If you’re feeling really brave, apply small sequins to the corner of your eyes.

Top tip: Apply glitter to your eyes using a wet make-up brush. This will make it last longer.

4. All-over highlights, as seen at Alberta Ferretti, Christopher Kane and Gucci

If you prefer something that’s a little more natural, get a glowing look by wearing light foundation or BB cream and a subtle but effective highlighter. Keep the rest of your make-up quite minimal but apply shimmering products on your cheekbones, nose and upper lip to create a natural yet glowing look.

Top tip: You may never have realised it, but there is a large variety of highlighter shades. If your skin is dark choose bronze tones, if you’re light-skinned try something with a pink or rose gold tone, and if you have medium to dark skin look for pearl colours.

5. Dark lips, as seen at Rodarte, Dior and Bottega Veneta

The dark lip trend is already huge and it’s sure to be one of the go-to evening looks this festive season. At Rodarte, lips took on a dark purple hue, while at Dior they were a pure shade of black – try this if you’re brave enough!

Top tip: Lip liner is essential. Choose one the same shade as your lipstick, or if you fancy trying the ombre effect, go for something a shade or two lighter or darker. Once lined, apply your lipstick from the middle and finish with a clear gloss.

6. Icy blue eyes, as seen at Anya Hindmarch and Jill Stuart

Dig out your old make-up bag and find that blue eyeshadow you used to wear – because blue is back. Whether it’s subtle eyeliner or more of a statement look around the whole eye, be experimental!

Top tip: Begin your blue look with a layer of silver eyeshadow or cream before applying your chosen blue tone. Whether it’s a dark navy or bright teal, the metallic underlay will give your eyes an icy winter effect.

7. Matte red lips, as seen at Roksanda, Mary Katrantzou, Prada

No matter how many times the red lip trend comes back, it never tires. This year, forget the gloss, because matte red lips are by far the easiest way to brighten up your make-up look.
It’s perfect for all those after-work Christmas parties – just add one coat and you’re good to go.

Top tip: Traditionally, we have been told to find the red that’s right for your skintone. Fair skin looks great with berry shades, medium tone skin suits burgundy lips, and dark skin is complemented by high-pigment orange-reds. Of course there’s no reason you can’t break the rules.

8. High-impact lashes, as seen at Balmain, Nina Ricci, Emporio Armani

Whether it’s Twiggy-style doll-like peepers or Kardashian-esque full-on glamour lashes, draw attention to your eyes with your luscious lashes. They should always be black for a high-impact look.

Top tip: For a more subtle look, invest in a great mascara and always apply two layers when fixing your make-up. If you are after a more dramatic look there are dozens of easy-to-apply false lashes on the market. Finish the look with eyeliner, sweeping a simple line across the lids.
