Ask the expert: how do I kick-start my day?

I suggest one tbsp of ghee, organic butter or virgin coconut oil, followed by a glass of lemon juice first thing in the morning

I am keen to try the ghee therapy you recommended in your column recently. What is a good breakfast plan to follow this?

To reiterate, having a tablespoon of ghee, organic butter or coconut oil first thing in the morning will heal your gut
and reduce bloating and constipation, have a positive effect on insulin, and help you burn fat if you follow it up with a meal with the correct macros for you. It is especially good for those who are struggling with elevated levels of insulin or blood sugar in a fasting state, when they wake up.

It works well for anyone who has carb cravings through the day, and also for women suffering from polycystic ovary disease (PCOD), endometriosis, elevated levels of oestrogen or any other inflammatory disorder.

A proper diet plan can be constructed only after a detailed consultation. But for a very general breakfast plan, I suggest one tbsp of ghee, organic butter or virgin coconut oil, followed by a glass of lemon juice first thing in the morning. Follow this up with two whole eggs – boiled or scrambled – with mushroom and spinach (two cups chopped) cooked in one teaspoon of good-quality fat (as mentioned above) with a side of 100g of sweet potato. But always consult a doctor before starting a diet plan.
