I’m on glucophage for polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) for over three years now. I’m still gaining weight and of late my skin has broken out a lot. Please help.
There’s an important factor you need to keep in mind here – diet and exercise should be the first line of action for PCOD and other metabolic disorders.
As in any disorder, medication won’t usually target the root issue. If you have PCOD, your hormones are not stable. With that sort of an internal body environment, burning body fat will become challenging, as will be keeping your skin healthy.
If you don’t focus on balancing your hormones now, your weight and skin condition will only deteriorate further. While continuing on your medication, I suggest you start focusing on eating well. Waking up to a tbsp of coconut oil or organic butter would help. Get off dairy completely and switch to coconut milk or almond milk. The hormones and antibiotics in milk will only worsen the situation.
Taking 2,000mg of omega-3 will help you stay hormonally healthy. Start cooking your meals in ghee, butter, coconut oil or mustard oil. Don’t cook in cheap vegetable oils – they do not contribute to your healthy quota of nutrients in any way.
Take up strength training three times a week and focus on lifting weights to accelerate the rate at which you burn fat. All of this will not be easy, but the results are phenomenal.
