Boxing icon Mike Tyson has chosen Dubai for the official announcement of his new business venture, a franchise of fitness centres called the Mike Tyson Academy (MTA).

Mike, who holds the record of being the youngest boxer to win the WBA, WBC and IBF heavyweight titles at just 20 years, will be revealing more details at a press conference at the Burj Khalifa on May 4. This will be followed by the grand MTA Launch Gala on May 6 at 8pm, hosted by Fred Frenchy Corp and the Mike Tyson Academy. Reservations to this event can be made by emailing gala@miketysonacademy.com.

‘Dubai has established itself on the world map by hosting many leading sporting events and icons and there is definitely a niche in this market for a fitness centre that is associated with quality and driven by a hard-core, challenging philosophy like mine,’ said Mike. The champion boxer will be certifying the trainers at all his centres. ‘I strive to maintain consistency across all my centres. This is going to be the beginning of a long-running successful association between myself and the region.’

The Mike Tyson Academy fitness centres will feature cardio, strength, functional training and boxing. There will be a full-scale boxing ring in every location and a host of group training and functional classes.

MTA, which is available globally, is looking to open in Australia, France, West Africa and China as well.
