When Wales’ number 1 female golfer, Amy, 21, isn’t teeing off with Tiger Woods in Dubai, she’s salsa dancing and learning Italian cooking

The greatest game ever played

Thanks to my dad, who is a golf pro, I started playing golf when I was about six. By the age of 10 I was entering tournaments. As an amateur, being part of the winning Great Britain & Ireland team for the Curtis Cup when we defeated USA, was my greatest achievement. My ultimate career dream will always be to be a part of a European Solheim Cup team.

Lazy days in

On days off at home at Llandudno, North Wales, I try to have a lie-in and make myself a breakfast of scrambled egg and salmon. I am trying to learn how to cook! My boyfriend Wesley’s mum is Italian and she is teaching me how to make lasagne and tiramisu. I love Italian food, it is my favourite.

Tiger, tiger

My most prized possession is a signed photo of Tiger Woods and me walking down the fairway together at the Dubai Desert Classic. I got the chance to spend time with him in 2011 while caddying for a friend playing the Dubai Pro-Am. He asked me to hit a couple of shots. I was so nervous I didn’t think I would make contact with the ball.

Welsh girl

Because I am away so often I love coming home and visiting my friends and family. My mum, dad and two sisters still live here, so it’s great to spend some time with them all. Llandudno is a seaside town so it’s nice to walk along the beach with the dog and catch-up with takeaway and board games!

Swing and sway

I love music, especially Motown. When I have some time off I like to go to concerts where I can listen and dance to that type of music. I’ve also started salsa dancing lessons, but as I’m away so often it’s hard to get into a routine.

Film facts

My movie-night pick depends on what kind of mood I’m in. I love any Disney film. I also love rom-coms like The Holiday, The Notebook and the heart-warming, very inspirational The Blind Side.

UAE, on course

I think golf is getting bigger and bigger in the UAE. My favourite tournament of the year is the Dubai Ladies Masters as we get looked after so well. A lot of golfers are spending more and more time out in the UAE, specifically Dubai, to practice as the facilities and golf courses are great. I love staying at JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort and relaxing there on the beach and playing a round or two on the Resort golf course. Dubai is a fantastic place and I go out every year around November/December & January to prepare for the coming season as the weather is much better here than at home during the winter season!
