For the 44-year-old Indian actress, model and TV anchor, weekends are about bonding with her son, Netflix marathons and eating out

LAZY LIE-INS

When I’m home in Mumbai on a weekend I make it a point not to set an alarm, and wake up at leisure. Then my five-year-old son Vir and I have breakfast. Usually it’s cold coffee, chia seeds soaked in milk, and an egg white omelette.

SARI NOT SORRY

My love for saris is why I started my own label, Mandira Bedi. However, my most prized sari is my mum’s wedding sari, which I wore for my wedding too. It’s made using real gold thread so the embroidery hasn’t faded even after all these years.

DATE DAYS

As a working mum I ensure my free time is dedicated to my son. However tired I am, I make sure we do something fun together – like go for a swim, spend time in these lovely outdoor play areas, hangout for lunch or catch the latest animation film in the cinemas. We call it our ‘mum and son date’.

MAD FOR DATES

In Dubai, dates are my shopping indulgence. I once booked a flight to Zurich with a stopover in Dubai just to buy dates. I’ve been substituting chocolates (my weakness) with them and I love the healthy indulgence of Bateel’s dates with pistachios and pecan fillings. I’ve bought five kilos of dates already!

CAUGHT IN THE NETFLIX

Ironically, as a viewer, I’m not very clued up on what’s happening on Indian television. Instead, I’m a Netflix junkie. I binge-watch Orange is the New Black, That 70s Show and Californication during my time off. I’m addicted to these shows!

CHEAT EATS

I always try to eat healthily, but every now and then I enjoy a steaming hot bowl of two-minute noodles. I also love wraps or frankie rolls. I can easily have two frankies in one go!

YES, WE CAN!

I believe nothing is a man’s domain. The kind of work I’ve done – from being a cricket commentator to driving a 14-tonne truck from Manali to Leh Ladakh (1,200km) as part of History Channel’s new show, Ice Road Truckers India’s Deadliest Roads – proves this.

THE DEEP END

My favourite holiday destination would be any place where I can go scuba diving. I’m a complete beach bum. Scuba diving is a lot like meditation. When you’re in the water you only hear your breath and that’s so peaceful as you’re so far removed from all the city noise.

BEAUTY BESTS

I have to wear so much make-up for my shows that I try to stay makeup free when I’m off duty. But I always use my Revlon Kajal Pencil and Garnier BB Cream Blur, even on weekends. The kajal perks up my face and the BB cream imparts a fresh glow.

SHORT AND SWEET

I enjoy short stories – I can’t commit to a novel. My favourite author is Roald Dahl. I’ve read all his books. I love the thrill of quick reads with sharp twists and crazy endings.
