When it comes to Valentine’s Day, the height of romance would be to cosy up together at a fabulous getaway, with all your senses pampered for. Or whisk your partner away for a candlelight dinner. Here’s a selection of ways to make Valentine’s Day truly memorable, with incredible packages that are worth every ounce of love.

Romantic weekend at Alila Jabal Akhdar

It’s been voted one of the best ‘romantic’ hotels in the Middle East. Jabal Akhdar means ‘The Green Mountain’ in Arabic, and its easy to see why. Part of the Al Hajar mountain range, it is one of Oman’s most spectacular regions. Perched here 2,000 metres above sea level in Nizwa, the Alila Jabal Akhdar resort overlooks a dramatic gorge, surrounded by awe-inspiring views of the mountains. This Oman resort is the perfect base for exploring the region’s magnificent landscape of rugged, untouched beauty while romancing your partner in the height of comfort. It has one of the most talked about infinity pools with its views of the sheer canyons below, and when you get tired of sitting around you can explore the rocky terrain on bike or by foot followed by a dreamy cliff-side picnic and unwinding at Spa Alila with a rejuvenating massage. So, it can pass off for a Valentine’s break for the sporties too. Candlelight dinners under the stars are de rigeur – we did say it is a romantic getaway!

Alila Jabal Akhdar’s package includes: A la carte breakfast in bed; Balinese massage in scented oils; rose petal bath with a pomegranate spritzer, strawberries and homemade chocolates; yoga session for two; guided tour of the A’roos and Saiq plateaus, followed by private cliffside picnic lunch; candlelit sunset 4-course dinner for two; two-night Jabal Terrace suite accommodation; and free Wi-Fi.

All this for Dh 2,290 per room, per night based. For reservations, email:, or call: +968 2534 4200 / +968 99104204.

Love among a ‘sea of candles’!

Candles are synonymous with romance. So, does a ‘sea of candles’ equal a ‘sea of love’? Yes, according to Cipriani Yas Island, who promise dinner bathed in the glow of a ‘sea of candles’ this Valentine’s. After all, who knows more about romance than the Italians!

The restaurant will be illuminated by candlelight, while world-famous harpist Lydia Stankulova plays some romantic tunes.

The Cipriani classics being served will include Burratina in Foglia with Datterino Tomatoes and Taggiasche Olives, Risotto with Porcini Mushrooms, Pan Seared Monkfish with Baby Artichokes, with Chocolate Hearts with Strawberry Sauce for dessert.

If you’d rather say ‘Aishiteru’ (‘I love you’ in Japanese) to your partner with proper accompaniments, opt for the Yotto Restaurant which offers a special Valentine’s menu featuring Yellowtail Sashimi with Kizami Wasabi and Yuzu Ponsu, Tuna Tataki Salad, Tempura Moriawase and Apple Gyoza.
