On February 8, the Chinese will celebrate the start of The Year of the Yang Fire Monkey. Feng shui-wise, this year favours growth and creativity. This is a good year to break free and take calculated risks – in your career as well as personal life – because nothing is more powerful or rewarding than following your heart’s desires.

A particularly auspicious time for new inventions, the Year of the Monkey is one where agile, inventive minds, sheer guts and bravado will win. Now is the time of courage, action and devotion to the wildest of schemes; it’s a time to start new endeavours, as they are destined to succeed under the Monkey’s influence.

But a word of caution: be alert for deceptions.

The Monkey’s gift is the ability to find unconventional solutions to prevailing problems. Daring to be different can lead to success.

Although it’s a lively, optimistic and progressive year where finances, politics and real estate are concerned, business decisions made this year should be guided by the brain and not the heart.

Businesses likely to thrive are lighting, entertainment, exhibitions, restaurants, art galleries, jewellery as well as creative industries such as advertising and media.

While there could be some dramatic currency instabilities and even possibilities of a market correction as the year goes
on, there will be a lot of development as well.

Water or liquid-based industries such as oil and shipping might experience a few hitches. However, from a feng shui standpoint, the good news is that 2016 will see more long-term resolutions.

The last two Monkey years were 1992 and 2004. The latter sadly saw parts of Asia devastated by an earthquake and a tsunami, which claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.

The key to success this year is education. Take up courses that make a difference to your everyday life.

Apart from focusing on your career and status, spend some quality time doing holistic workshops that bring out your creative side and help you relax too. Don’t be shy to take up off-beat courses or to start up a small but inventive business, subject, of course, to your financial conditions.

It is also the right time for families and couples to take stock of their daily relationships and find ways to bring more joy and cheer in their lives.

Rethink your fitness, diet and health plans. Initiate some form of regular physical activity this year in case you don’t have one. Burn off stress by regularly going to the gym, swimming, doing yoga or water aerobics, dancing or even just taking long walks.

Year of birth: 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016

In 2016, Monkeys get all the support they need from friends and family to realise their dreams. Their most ambitious projects can come to fruition – provided the methods employed are above board and business partners chosen are appropriate.

Assess the situation first before taking the plunge. Results could be mixed, but Monkeys are master tacticians and skilled in avoiding conflict and strife.
This is a great year for those considering starting a business. However, it is critical that they choose their partners carefully.

Those born in the Year of the Monkey should monitor their spending and take care of their health. They should be especially aware of conditions related to the nervous system such as strokes.

Those who are single can expect to find love this year.

1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005

For most Roosters, 2016 is going to be a tumultuous year. However, they are experts in the art of hiding their worries under a mask of perfect happiness.

A few financial issues could throw a spanner in the works and even jeopardise their careers. The need of the hour is to control your anger and have patience when dealing with irritating, sensitive or challenging issues.

Roosters’ first priority should be the well-being of their family. They should rely on their own observations and experience
and avoid jumping to conclusions based on the advice of people who have their own axes to grind. They need to choose their friends with care and avoid trusting people blindly.

Keeping their emotions in control is crucial for Roosters this year. Do this and you will eventually reap reasonably good success.

1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006

On the whole, 2016 is a very good year for the Dog in the Chinese zodiac. Although they may face minor disappointments, Dogs find strength in spending quality time with new and influential friends or enjoying family gatherings – and there are going to be quite a few of them this year.

Usually happy and comfortable in their lives, Dogs don’t like to stray too far from home. But this year is special, and following good news, they shall enjoy new adventures outside of their boundaries.

However, they need to be extra careful when it comes to finances. A few situations when they may have to dig deep into their pockets are likely to crop up. Accurate monitoring of savings and expenses will ensure 2016 is an absolutely fruitful and happy year.

For those in a relationship, this is a fine year as the bonds are sure to strengthen.

For those who are single, entering into a lasting relationship is likely.

1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007

In 2016, Boars need to prioritise their personal interests first before setting goals. They need to keep their heads down and work hard if they hope to achieve any success. Boars may need to step out of their comfort and security zones if they hope to succeed. Courage and the perseverance to never give up despite any challenge is the need of the hour. Avoid going on extended holidays this year.

On the plus side, Boars will be pleased to know that the emotional environment this year is extremely favourable for them. They will be able to forge romantic bonds easily. Their love life will see an upswing. Spouses/partners will be accommodating and encouraging. Family life will be happy and content.

1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008

This is going to be a fabulous year for Rats and they can expect dazzling professional and financial success. People working in all sectors and industries will see a marked improvement commensurate with the hard work that they put into their jobs.

However, a note of caution here: it is important that Rats don’t neglect their families and their needs in the race to accumulate riches and scale heights of success.

Rats can expect to hear regular and heartening good news throughout the year. Unexpected solutions to old problems can turn out to be pleasant surprises.

However, in case Rats are considering major life changes – in love or business – avoid doing so this year.

1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009

Although Oxen usually manage to maintain their neutrality in conflict situations, 2016 forces them to adopt firm positions, sometimes at the risk of disappointing part of their entourage and jeopardising some of their projects. The Oxen sometimes risk being confronted with tough conditions, from which the only way out is to shrug away their legendary calm and voice
their views strongly.

This year, your high level of optimism and intelligence combined with diligence will assist you in developing your professional or business life. This year Oxen should focus on studies and training during the course of the year. Existing partnerships will be fortified with your committed and emotional approach, while new love affairs have good chances of success.

1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010

This is the year when Tigers’ stamina will be severely stretched and their wits and skills put to the test. Importantly, they should learn to control their emotions and tongue and forget about settling old scores. Tigers may also become the target of direct confrontations from which they may emerge weaker.

It would be wise for them to be very cautious, as this is a year of taking things easy. The good news is that if they are patient and smart enough to protect their interests, Tigers can profit in several areas of their life.

Focus on your priorities; introspect and learn from your mistakes in the previous years. These will help you stay ahead
in the game.

Health may be an area of concern and Tigers will need to resort to fitness training and regular exercise to avoid any potential health issues.

Emotional health can be improved by avoiding various conflicts. Be more caring and less confrontational in all your relationships.

For those who are single, finding love may not be easy this year.

1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011

Expected to be an extremely favourable time for earnings, this year is also a period when Rabbits will get good returns on investments made over the past years. However, be warned: there is a risk that some of their employees or colleagues may betray them. Rabbits would do well to be cautious and make friends with people who have a positive outlook on life. One of the best things about Rabbits is that they almost always get back on their feet in case they take a tumble.

This is a good time for Rabbits to rethink their goals and ambitions and devote themselves to self-improvement.

Issues of the heart will be sorted out and harmonious relationships will prevail.

All in all, 2016 is a good year for the Rabbit.

1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012

For Dragons, 2016 is going to be a hectic year. They may face many trials that could force them to swallow their oversized egos and teach them to be more accommodating of others’ viewpoints. Dragons should learn the art of remaining calm and not rejoicing too quickly when they make profits or do well financially. Not doing so could invite attention from unwanted quarters.

If Dragons are unwilling to compromise, they could see the collapse of what they’ve built so far. They must learn to be more flexible in difficult situations.

As painful as it may sound, they may be forced by circumstances to remain separated from their loved ones for short periods of time. The silver lining is that there could be some beneficial consequences in the end. Dragons shall then be able to resume their flight to greener pastures.

Review your relationships and focus on healing strained bonds or building bridges. This will benefit you in the long run.

1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013

This is a good year for Snakes. They will do well in all areas of life – career, relationships, health, wealth as well as love.

This is a year when Snakes will get help and good wishes from all quarters. In fact, they will be pleasantly surprised to receive help from unexpected sources.

Snakes usually maintain neutrality in crises. They prefer to wait and watch and rarely, if ever, interfere in the lives of others. If it is a subject or an issue that doesn’t concern them directly, then it is very likely that Snakes would not be interested to find out more.

However, this year it helps if they are more curious about the goings-on in their surroundings. They would stand to benefit immensely from this.

In this year, Snakes will be seeking relationships with more passion and romance. They do not mind expressing feelings more openly and will follow their hearts with fervour. A good year for love.

1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014

Horses have a lot to look forward to this year. They can expect to reap major benefits with success in business, as well as unexpected profits as a result of new professional liaisons.

Those with a creative bent of mind will do extremely well during 2016, which is likely to cause envy in their social circles. The flip side of all this success is that they might miss noticing minor blocks and challenges in their way, which could end up hurting them.

It would do well for Horses to be wary of negative people around them. They must also keep track of their projects and monitor them regularly to ensure they are on the right path.

On the family front, peace and harmony will prevail.

Single Horses will find love, but it is not going to be easy.

1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015

This is going to be a year that is hugely beneficial for the Sheep. Rewards and promotions at the workplace, praise and recognition for their skills and an increase in their earnings is highly likely. Sheep will see their confidence getting a boost and will be pleased with the way things are turning out.

This year, Sheep will not be hesitant to make life-changing decisions. Their increased confidence has a role to play here. They will, however, be more selective in their choices, whether sentimental or professional.

Sheep will be successful and spend a wonderful year. Minor squabbles with their partners or spouses are likely, but nothing to be worried about.

For single Sheep, this year is not going to be a lucky one. Also avoid getting into a serious relationship.
