Thanksgiving in the UAE

Where to eat the turkey dinner

Staff report
17 Nov 2016 | 09:00 am

November for Americans typically means two things: Thanksgiving and Election Day. We know how one of those turned out. Now it’s time for the annual celebration of the founding of the USA, where hopefully the most divisive thing will be whether you have marshmallows on your sweet potatoes, or not. (We’re with marshmallows.) For US expats and those celebrating with them, we’ve rounded up Thanksgiving offerings in the UAE, from turkey takeaways to parties to restaurants serving the full meal on the fourth Thursday in the month (or thereabouts).

Dubai

Bazxar, DIFC

thanksgiving3-ebazara

The eclectic restaurant in Dubai’s financial hub is known for food from across the world, and from November 15-30 will be adding a North American flavour to proceedings to eat in or at home. To take away, there’s sauteed brussels sprouts, roasted acorn squash, buttermilk mash, cranberry sauce and turkey, plus pumpkin cheese cake and chestnut mousse with berry jelly. The six-person meal is Dh595 (order and pay 48 hours in advance). In-house, it’s Dh300 for a three-course meal. Call 04-3551111.

Catch Dubai, Fairmont

The New York restaurant transplanted to Shaikh Zayed Road is throwing a Thanksgiving party on November 23 with a Thanksgiving bar menu and unlimited selected drinks from 7.30-9.30pm; call 04-3571755.

Claw, Souk Al Bahar

A three-course menu will be served on Thanksgiving day at the US crab shack, where the annual parade will also be showing on the big screens. It’s Dh229; call 04-4322300.

Clinton Street Baking Company

Dubai’s little piece of America is serving roast turkey with stuffing, homemade gravy, cranberry sauce and pies — including pumpkin pie, pecan pie and apple pie. Orders for the full Thanksgiving dinner need to be made a week ahead, and bookings for a meal at the Downtown brand (in Burj Views) are being taken for the 24th (call 04 4281331).

Jones the Grocer

The Dubai and Abu Dhabi gourmet deli is doing turkey takeaways from November 20-28. The meal, serving 8-10 people, includes sage and apricot stuffing, a choice of five side dishes (which have more of a British Christmas slant, if we’re honest) and cranberry gravy, from Dh775. Pumpkin pie is an additional Dh160.

Perry & Blackwelder’s, Madinat Jumeirah

P&B's-Thanksgiving-Dinner-

The American smokehouse restaurant is celebrating its first ‘Friendsgiving’ on November 25, promising “lots of pie”, among other dishes, as well as hourly giveaways. The turkey menu features candied yams, festive slaw and stuffing balls as well as the restaurant’s usual Southern offerings of corn bread and BBQ burgers. Prices start at Dh195, and all meals come with free sweet potato pie. From noon-4pm; call 04-4323232.

Abu Dhabi

c.taste, Centro Capital Centre

ThanksGiving-Pic-1

This Abu Dhabi restaurant is serving a Thanksgiving buffet that includes the traditional meal, but also has other offerings for those not crazy about turkey with cranberry sauce. From Dh158; call 02-4954444.

The Sportsman’s Arms

unspecified

Food is served family-style at the Thanksgiving brunch on November 24 in your choice of three-hour sitting (from noon-7pm), from Dh195. Dishes at this American-Irish gastropub include maple roasted heritage beetroot salad, corned beef, pastrami-cured salmon, turkey with sweet potato mash, candied yams, buttermilk mashed potato, collard greens and mac and cheese; sweets include pumpkin pie, peach cobbler and Key lime pie. Sick of turkey? Try the hot dog menu. There’s a DJ from 8pm and a raffle. Bookings are for a minimum of four people; call 02-4034235.
