  • Kunafa Nest Surprise at Gossip Café

Stir up a dessert nest

Sweet dreams are made of these: pistachios, ice cream, ashta and caramelised walnuts, among others, plated on a delicious bed of fried golden vermicelli. And when they take life as the Kunafa Nest Surprise at Gossip Café’s this Eid, neither family nor friends will say no to seconds. The quaint Emirati café’s contemporary take on the traditional dessert rising from clouds of dry ice and showers of rose petals serves three people. Dh120. Call 050 988 0008 for Dubai and 02 677 7520 for Abu Dhabi.

Gown town

There’s something about gowns by Middle Eastern designers (Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad) that makes us go gaga. Joining the
list of our couture crushes is UAE-based Syrian designer Rami Al Ali, whose 2016 prêt-à-porter range will turn you into stars this Eid. Dressed in this glorious blue evening gown in tulle and sequins, you’ll shine the brightest. Dh8,400 at Harvey Nichols.

Family feast

The family that eats together stays together, so make memories over your Eid meal at Seasons restaurant, Pullman Dubai Jumeirah Lakes Towers. Over two days, a spread of Middle Eastern and international delicacies will be dished out from a seafood bar, barbecue station, and pizza station, along with dishes such as stuffed mushrooms, pies, peanut tarts, lemon mint mousse and brownies. 12.30-3.30pm, Dh119 per person. Call 04 567 1159.

Best-laid plans

Organising an Eid dinner party single-handedly could be a nightmare, but Silliss – the UAE’s first online event sourcing platform founded by Farah Hindiyeh and Ghida Idriss – is here to save the day. Feed in the services you need into the easy-to-use website and receive quotes and rates from its envious inventory of florists, caterers, serving staff, decor and furniture companies, photographers etc., then book the services that fit your requirements and budget. Even superwoman needs a sidekick. Visit

Go figure skating

Here’s a clever ploy to get your kids to let go of their Frozen DVD and willingly free the TV for the Olympics – sign them up for Dubai Ice Rink’s Summer Skate School ice skating course! From July 10 to August 31, kids aged six and above can zoom across the Olympic-size rink in The Dubai Mall and learn basic manoeuvres and balance through fun games and exercises in groups of 10 to 15. Dh500 per child per week inclusive of skates and helmet. Call 04 448 5111.

Melody makers

Move over movies; for entertainment this Eid, liven things up with the MTV India Undivided concert. During the two-day event, discover the musical heritage of the UAE, India and Pakistan as local bands – Ektara and Rooh – open for live acts by classical singer Shafqat Amanat Ali, Kailash Kher, Assamese singer Papon and singer-songwriter Komal Rizvi at the World Trade Centre in Dubai. On July 8 and 9, 9pm onwards. Tickets cost Dh100 (regular), Dh250 (fan pits) and Dh600 (VIP). To book, visit

Reggae flavours in town

Jamaican cuisine is creating a culinary storm in the UAE dining scene, and answering the call of the Caribbean is the New-York based restaurant, Miss Lily’s. Opening its first international branch on Eid at Sheraton Grand Hotel Dubai, the urban lounge and restaurant is part Eighties Jamaican diner and part-NYC bodega vibe, and is ideal to taste dishes like jerk chicken, pimento short ribs and more. Don’t miss it! To book a table, email

Henna party

Salons before Eid could be blocked by hordes of henna fans queuing to beautify hands and feet. But if you’re thinking of skipping the festive tradition, don’t! Lottie’s temporary Holi Henna tattoos turn you into artists no matter what your art skills are like. A breeze to apply at home, stick on the smudge-proof designs in floral and paisley patterns for 20 seconds, peel off and they’ll remain for the next four days. All this without painful minutes of statue-like immobility! Dh69 per pack. Get yours now at

Kit and caboodle

Sometimes, surprises come not in small,
but giant packages – like the Chic Living Kit. This lifestyle subscription box concept by Dubai-resident Nicola Monteath had Team Friday ooh-ing and aah-ing over a beautifully curated jumble of treats, including skincare products from brands like Bioderma, a handmade ceramic mug from Indigo Living, discount cards for luxe beauty treatments
at Bloom Aesthetic and Laser Clinic, F&B vouchers and beauty treatments, delish snacks from Munchbox and more!

This is how it works: for just Dh120 per box, a selection of the best products from the best brands are delivered for free at your doorstep or a friend’s. That’s Eid gifts sorted for the hard-to-please. Plus, the amount of savings is directly proportional to the pampering you experience. This out-of-the-box idea has settled straight into out hearts! Give it a wrist

Eid is round the corner and the timing’s perfect to clock in some brownie points when you gift the man in your life this lavish GC Bold watch. From the luxe Swiss brand’s sport chic collection, this hardy yet suave timepiece with a rose gold water-resistant case, offset by the cool navy blue leather strap and dial, is just what globetrotters need to count down to their summer travels. Dh2,860 at Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons.
