House on fire

Forget maths, environment science will save your dirhams this summer with the Treehouse Lounge’s greenhouse effect offer. The temperature inside the glass tent enclosing this Taj Dubai rooftop venue is the discount on your bill; so 30°C equals 30 per cent off the à la carte menu’s delish short rib mini burgers (Dh65), tempura vegetables (Dh40), etc.! Engineer it to your benefit – the more crowded the tent, the hotter it gets and the lesser you pay. Here’s a hint: school/college reunion. From 7-9pm daily. For details, call 050 648 3083 or visit

Step into spa-radise

For a moment, I felt like a caveman after a hunt. My entire body was tingling after being gently massaged, pinched and scrubbed down. Then, I was covered from head to toe in gooey mud. A lot of it.

‘Now, you can relax for a while in our private rhassoul room,’ suggested my masseur, leading me to a dimly lit cave-like niche thick with steam.

I had checked in at the well-appointed Natural Elements Spa in the luxurious Le Méridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre for a Le Royal Club Moroccan Hammam Experience.

A detoxifying treatment inspired by Moroccan tradition, the signature hammam ritual begins with a gentle massage and the application of a herb-and-argan oil-infused Moroccan soap. A full body exfoliation follows with a not-too-abrasive loofah. ‘This removes the dead skin and will leave your skin glowing,’ my therapist said.

Then came the pièce de résistance – being covered in rhassoul clay natural to the Atlas Mountains in Morocco and known for its skin invigorating properties since ancient times. ‘The steam opens your pores and helps the mud penetrate and cleanse the skin,’ said my masseur. And he wasn’t wrong. A relaxing wash later, my skin was visibly radiant – reason enough to return soon! Dh550 for 90 minutes. Call 04 7022550 or email

Pop goes the kernel

Crunch into the world of gourmet popcorn with a new limited-time flavour – brownie caramel crisp. The dreamy blend of rich brownie and alluring crème brûlée, handcrafted in old-fashioned copper kettles can be found at the famous Garrett Popcorn shops at The Dubai Mall and Yas Mall. From Dh25 per bag, customers have options of choosing Garrett’s signature tins too. This enticing flavour is available until August 31, so hurry up and grab a bag of popcorn bliss!

For good measure

Will that bright couch fit the living room’s empty corner? And how tall have the kids become over the holidays? Redecorate your house and measure your kid’s height without rolling out the tape, thanks to Bosch Zamo. Click one button and this digital laser measures straight lines precisely up to 20m on the easy-to-read display. Plus, its continuous measuring mode does the job without anyone standing at the other end to stop recoils. Dh189 at Sharaf DG.

Stylish is the head that wears the crowns, tiaras, barrettes and schoolgirl ribbons, as S/S16 runways and the Met Gala red carpet proves. Statement headpieces from Rodarte’s romantic coronets to Diane von Fürstenberg’s tropical flowers are making headway on the high street too, and we love the burnish this vintage Sfera hair comb adds to the hair. Use to wedge side-swept manes in place and it turns into the jewel in your crowning glory. Dh25, Sfera stores.

Snow in the summer

Be out cold this summer is practical paradox when you sign up for Ski Dubai’s overnight stay experience. Experience the base camp life of mountaineers when you camp in tents at -4°C temperatures. Aspiring alpine adventurers receive a delicious cup of hot chocolate on arrival, insulated clothing and enviable after-hours access to the ski resort’s facilities along with breakfast at St Moritz café. Now all those perks would make a happy camper out of any city slicker! Dh750 per person. Call 800-386.

Tresses and totes

To bag sleek hair and a snazzy designer bag in one go this summer don’t trawl the malls but just shop for label.m’s exquisite hair-care products that make art and science work together at your nearest Toni&Guy salon. Its exclusive summer deal lets you walk away with a Jean-Pierre Braganza designer tote from the British designer’s bright and graphic Whiplash collection when you buy any three label.m products. Looking fabulous is a sweet deal! Until stocks last.
