Manicure Message

Three’s a charm, and Kaya Skin Clinic’s #PowerOfThree breast cancer awareness campaign is using a unique three-pronged approach to spread awareness about the significance of breast self-examinations this October. It’s pretty easy; paint only your thumb, fore and middle fingers – the fingers used for breast self-examinations – in your favourite shade of pink polish, then upload pictures on Facebook or Instagram using #PowerOfThree. Self-examinations are vital preventive procedures that can detect symptoms early and save lives.

Photo Op

You diligently cased out Gitex and purchased your dream DSLR. Now open the shutters and release your inner Annie Leibovitz and Henri Cartier-Bresson at the Xposure Photography Festival, Expo Centre, Sharjah. Until tomorrow (October 15), there’ll be indoor and outdoor exhibitions at various Sharjah venues and also at City Walk, Dubai. Plus workshops by world-class photographers such as German photojournalist Ulla Lohmann and seminars by brands like Canon. Millennial shutterbugs used to selfie-sticks and filters will discover tripods and rule of thirds. Visit

Tried and Tested: Re Spa

There is nothing better than coming home from a long week of work on a Thursday to find a fully equipped beauty therapist on my doorstep, ready to bring the spa experience to my home without me having to drive anywhere – absolute bliss!

There is a whole range of at-home treatments and SPArty packages for groups, so you can get your girlfriends involved too, and also throw a kids’ party package for little ones (think mini manicures and hair braiding). I decided to go for a massage and facial. Just 10 minutes in my therapist from Re Spa had transformed my bedroom into a haven, and her special spa playlist meant when I closed my eyes I could have been anywhere.

My facial was relaxing and thorough; my therapist cleared all my pores and finished with a relaxing face mask and 15-minute face massage, topped off with a 30-minute signature back massage finale using traditional Swedish techniques. I loved the way she paid attention to detail – focusing on a particularly tense shoulder I’ve had for a while. This was the perfect way to start the weekend – chilled-out, relaxed and going to bed stress-free!

Essential Luxury facial, Dh300. Back massage, Dh80. Re-Wheelz spa requires a minimum spend of Dh400 for home visits and 48 hours’ notice for bookings. Call 052 473 0205, visit

Shutter Bag

The perfect accessory for you to click cliques at the photography festival (see left) has come into our focus – these camera-shaped Scout handbags from Michael Kors’ collaboration with Fujifilm. Inspired by vintage camera cases, these haute couture reinventions in suede with cross-body straps in four colourways capture the interdependent relationship between fashion and photography. Flash around this style statement, and you just might be chased by the paparazzi. Smile and wave, it’s only Dh1,670!

Fall into Food

There are ingredients other than the clichéd pumpkin that capture autumn’s mellow magic, and we’re headed to 1762 Deli to harvest them! The cool deli chain’s menu includes rich baked goodies like zesty orange and lemon polenta loaf with chia seeds, and rustic fruit tart that warm your cockles and beat the nip in the air this October. Early birds can breakfast on scrummy porridge (Dh20) with dried apricots, figs, honey, pumpkin and sunflower seeds and cinnamon. Tastes like autumn in a bowl! Call 800 1762 or email

Full of Hot Air

If you’re planning to not have crunchy kachoris on your Diwali menu this year, or are staying away from crispy samosas because they’re all deep-fried and cholesterol-laden, freeze! Just let them jump from the frying pan into the Philips Viva Airfryer Turbostar HD9623, and turn a whole shade healthier with just a tablespoon of oil – or none – thanks to its starfish design and Rapid Air Technology that fries food evenly by circulating hot air. The integrated timer, dishwasher option and temperature control (up to 198°C) all ensure you’ll be the undisputed Kitchen Queen/King of the clan! Dh899 from all major supermarkets.
