Tried and tested: Bateaux Dubai
Growing up in Dubai, this has always been pegged as a must-do. And as the glass-sided Bateaux Dubai boat loomed up ahead at the Dubai Creek, I geared up for what I was sure would be a magical two-and-a-half-hours full of succulent nosh and sparkling skyline views. With a new menu of 27 dishes crafted by the exceptional new chef Eka, guests can design their own four-course menu – and there’s such delicious variety, this is one challenging task. Think lobster medallion, butter-poached asparagus and truffle risotto for starters; mains of seared duck, turbot, chermoula prawns, anchovy tempura, braised veal cheek, scallops, sous vide of lamb loin; desserts of strawberry cannelloni, peach mousse, coconut parfait, mango fluid gel… it is all delectable, nicely spiced, perfectly cooked and flavoured with the right combinations and accompaniments. All this while bringing history alive through the various captivating spots of the city – we meandered through spice and gold souks of yore, the heritage and diving village, the Grand Mosque and Bastakiya. Oh, and there’s an al fresco deck should you choose to feel the wind in your hair. From Dh415 per person. Call 04 814 5553.

Through The Looking Glass Displays
Window shopping takes a whole new meaning at Galeries Lafeyette as part of Dubai Design Week (October 24-29). The French department store’s glass front displays turned into the canvas for four creative minds – architect Amer Aldour, Bahar Al Bahhar, Ivan Parati and molten glass artist Anjali Srinivasan – using mixed media, interior, fashion and urban designs to transform window displays based on the theme ‘Through The Lens’. What will you find there? At The Dubai Mall, until November 6.
