When I was a little girl growing up in the UK, I remember fasting for the very first time at the age of six. Not one to do things by halves, my decision coincided with the height of summer, when the fasts are long and it’s extremely difficult for anyone who has never done it before, let alone a child. However, nothing made me happier than feeling the true essence of Ramadan alongside my family and being a part of it. Since having children of my own, they have also followed tradition and all started fasting at around the same age, even though they have never been forced to.
I’m a big advocate of children trying new things and exotic flavours but I find that a more simplistic approach is key during this season. Familiar foods and comforting flavours are a recipe for success and given the minimum fuss approach, all the following dishes are quick and easy to prepare. Check out this winning menu that will light up their little faces and make them feel truly rewarded for all their effort!
There isn’t a kid in the world that won’t devour these super sliders.
Fried, sweet and tangy, these will go down a treat.
Easy-to-eat pizza rolls for little hands.
This snack is simplicity at its best.
My kids love this dish. Don’t be alarmed by the use of green chilli paste – it has all the flavour of chillies, minus the spice factor.
A cooling and colourful dessert that will certainly catch their attention.
