What better way to make the transition from being home-bound to the great outdoors than with a colour that screams comfort and laidback style? Synonymous with summer, signalling ample sunshine and carefree days, is the white dress. A knockout white dress signifies a great fashion pick almost every time of the year in the UAE, but especially so during its summers. It goes beyond a dress – there’s nothing like a dose of white to elevate levels of chic in your ensemble, be they casual or sophisticated ones. Classy yet sassy, it sure is easy to make an eye-catching statement in them. It’s timeless too – and in the current climate, with a focus on the environmental impact of all our choices, a piece that’s enduring is apt.

The team over at Max Fashion agree. “White is the way to go if you want to cool off this summer. Reflecting warmth and pleasant on the eye, white is known to have a cooling effect on the body. Choose from bright whites to creamy ecrus or off-whites for an ethereal, breezy look that could work for just about any occasion.”

What stunning, head-turning looks can you create with white? “Go feminine with a statement ruffled tunic, paired with leggings and high heels,” says Max. “Or chase a summer dream in an all-white broderie rustic kaftan. This resort-ready look is best paired with tan accessories and statement earrings.

Don’t be afraid to go all white. “Nothing says uber-chic like a head-to-toe white outfit. An all-white blouse with a fluid skirt and minimal accessories to match is a winner for an evening look!”

As for the fabrics to wear white in? Prakash Asnani, sales director at Regal Traders, says cotton, being breathable. “Traditionally we see a demand for cotton, linen and hemp fabrics during the summer season. There are various varieties in cotton, like voile and lawn. The feel and finish of the fabric would also differ according to the origin of the fabric. For example, Swiss cottons tend to have a superior finish, adding to the comfort of the outfit. Plus, cotton fabrics typically fall into a more economical price bracket, compared to fabrics such as silk and lace. We’ve seen that whites with embroidery, small prints, and polka dots are popular choices.”
