Jewellery designers, sketching pencils at the ready: There’s a Dh900,00 prize with your name on it.
That’s the value of the annual Dubai Design and Fashion Council (DDFC) /Vogue Fashion Prize, which this year adds a fine jewellery category for the first time.
Last year Ralph Masri was an honorary winner, as there wasn’t an official category for fine jewellery but the panel found him to be a deserving candidate. He went on to have his designs stocked at Harvey Nichols.
‘The DDFC/Vogue Fashion Prize made a huge difference for my career,’ Ralph tells Friday. ‘Firstly, it introduced my brand to a whole new audience via the coverage I got, especially through Vogue Arabia, and aside from visibility it also gave it credibility. As a result my brand’s profile significantly grew in the region, I was picked up by very important retailers like Harvey Nichols Dubai, and my overall following in the region got a huge boost. As for the cash prize itself, it helped me grow the business and take things to the next level.’
It’s open to emerging designers based in the UAE in the fine jewellery, ready-to-wear and accessories categories and winners are chosen by a judging panel that includes the likes of Reem Acra and Chalhoub Group CEO Patrick Chalhoub. Winners get a production grant, their wares stocked in a retail partner, mentorship from DDFC members and an advertising campaign. Go to fashionprize.com – entries are open now.
