When consumed in moderation, olive oil can enhance your health. Nadine Aoun, specialist clinical dietitian, Medcare Women & Children Hospital says that olive oil, being high in monounsaturated fats helps the nervous system function properly, reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases and supports healthy skin.
The polyphenols found in olive oil reduces low bad cholesterol and protect the cells from free radicals, she says. ‘The healthful fats in it are a sustained source of energy, contributes to brain health, mood stabilisation and proper hormone development, while also keeping you full longer.
‘Studies show consuming diets rich in olive oil (like the Mediterranean diet) have lowered risk of upper digestive tract cancers, including stomach and small intestine,’ she adds.
