Breast cancer patients can experience social isolation and anxiety after the treatment, according to a survey conducted in the UK. Healthcare providers are now being urged to discuss and educate woman about the effects of disease on mental health early on.
Two leading British charities – Breast Cancer Care and Mind – warn that women living with breast cancer need better mental health support. Eight in ten women who have breast cancer said their health care team did not inform them about how their diagnosis could affect their mental health.
The two charities are now leading calls for all women with the disease to be advised of the mental health risks of breast cancer and offered support if needed.
