Q: I just turned 35, my wrinkles are getting prominent. I am not necessarily in favor for Botox yet, what do you recommend?

Wrinkles are part of the process of ageing. Based on your genetics, lifestyle, diet and skin regime, signs of ageing can appear as early as 30 for some.

Wrinkles are caused by overuse of facial muscles e.g. The number 11 lines on your forehead, between your eyes, are due to excessive frowning and the long horizontal lines on the forehead are due to stress.

Skin dehydration and excessive sun exposure are also contributing factors to wrinkles. I understand you are not in favour of Botox but it is definitely one of the best solutions for wrinkles.

It helps relax the overused muscles and hence stops the formation of wrinkles. I understand that botulinum injections have had myths such as frozen look or unnatural facial expressions. But that is due to its excessive use particularly by inexperienced and underqualified injectors. New techniques of injecting such as ‘Baby Botox’ – also called micro Botox – is a new way of treating the wrinkles subtlety and with natural facial expressions.

Alternative methods include facial yoga that helps to break the habit of muscle overuse. Other simple measures include using a proper moisturiser that keeps your skin hydrated and at the same time repairs damaged skin. Vitamin C serum works as antioxidant for skin cells and repairs wrinkles.

Some other ways of reducing wrinkles include medical peels and laser therapies. People also benefit with medical facials like Vivace and injectables like hylarunoic fillers.

Early management of ageing is extremely important. Times are changing, medical science has given us many tools and technologies which if used properly can slow down ageing. Adopting them early helps substantially delay the hard results of ageing.

Consult a good doctor. He can examine the real cause of your wrinkles and advise appropriately.
