I’ve heard that egg white is good to use as a mask for a facelift. Can it also help reduce undereye bags?
The elastin and collagen structure loses its elasticity over time, and the skin’s self-moisturising components also reduce. Sun damage, pollution, smoking, alcohol intake, obesity, rapid weight loss, poor diet, use of harsh skin products, dehydration and free radicals can damage the skin’s elastin and collagen, resulting in sagging, wrinkling and age spots.
As the skin begins to sag, fat that is normally confined to the area around the eye moves below your eyes and the area accumulates fluid, making it appear puffy or swollen. Though under-eye bags can run in families, a few specific factors including weather, hormone changes, menopause, eating salty food, lack of sleep and allergies can also have an effect.
Application of egg whites can provide a temporary tightening of the skin. Here are some ideas for at-home face masks.
✱ Beat 1-2 egg whites to a foamy texture. Apply on face and neck and rinse off with cool water after 20 minutes.
✱ A mixture of 1 tbsp yoghurt with an egg white is also a good face mask. Or mix an egg white with 1 tbsp honey, 1 tsp glycerin and rice flour to make an effective face mask.
✱ Almond paste applied over the eyelids for 10 minutes can help reduce undereye bags.
✱ Regular application of lemon juice or aloe vera gel, or massaging with olive, avocado or almond oils will also help.
Increase your intake of almonds, walnuts, sesame seeds, flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, peanuts, soybean oil, whole grains, legumes, fishes, eggs, cheese, celery, asparagus, raisins, mango, avocado and dried fruit.
Natural options such as clean living, healthful nutrition, ingestion of essential fatty acids and antioxidants, regular use of oil massage and the consumption of lots of water can show a significant improvement in few months. How much your skin will tighten depends on your age, amount of elastin in your skin and genetics.
Facial exercise can help as it will tighten the skin to some degree. Being youthful in mind will reflect on the skin too; ensure you get around 7-8 hours sleep at night.
There are also several ayurvedic therapies that can be done to improve skin. Applying oils such as kunkumadi thailam, dhanwantharam thailam or balaswagandhadi thailam can be effective.
