I am a 34-year-old mother of four. I have large thighs and exercise has not helped trim them down. I have heard of a new technique called power-assisted liposuction. Would that work for me? Please throw some light on this.

The diet, exercise and beauty industry are full of treatments to get rid of thigh fat at home. But few of them work.

Cosmetic surgery is a unique discipline of medicine focused on enhancing appearance through surgical and medical techniques. One of the most common and safest cosmetic surgical procedures is liposuction. It is the surgical removal of fat, an effective treatment for many people who want to reduce thigh fat that does not seem to disappear through diet and exercise.

Several types of liposuction now exist that provide outstanding results. Power-assisted liposuction or PAL is one of the newest techniques. PAL is performed using a special cannula that uses tiny, rapid vibrations to break up fat cells so that they can be suctioned out of the body. Doctors can remove more fat in a shorter period of time, which leads to enhanced results, a safer procedure and fast recovery.

PAL is useful for treating areas that are notoriously difficult to sculpt, including the inner thighs, belly button area, and male breasts. It is used to remove larger amounts of fat.

PAL takes less time to perform than manual liposuction, that’s why patients are less susceptible to complications and safety risks.

The time a patient resumes regular exercises varies based on the operation performed. All patients are encouraged to start a slow walking routine on the second postoperative day. Regular aerobic and more vigorous activities are not allowed during the first two weeks to decrease risks of bleeding, swelling and bruising.

Weightlifting and contact sports are allowed at one month in most cases.

Under most circumstances, when liposuction is an outpatient procedure and recovery is usually quick. Most people can return to work within a few days and to normal activities within about two weeks.
