Q: I’ve been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis since the last three years. Is there a diet and Ayurvedic medication for better treatment?

Rheumatoid arthritis occur when the body’s immune system malfunctions, attacking healthy tissue in addition to its normal enemies, such as bacteria and viruses. This malfunction causes inflammation that leads to pain, swelling in the joints and may eventually cause joint damage and painful disability. Again, the exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis is unknown; experts believe that the disease may be the result of a combination of factors, including genetics (inherited genes), environment (triggered by an infectious agent such as a bacteria or virus), hormones and the body’s response to stressful events.

As per Ayurveda, excess sour and salty foods, fermented foods, urud dal, yoghurt, raw veggies, sesame products, seafood, vinegar, milk and jaggery should be limited.

Many drugs used to treat rheumatoid arthritis have potentially serious side effects. Ayurveda therapies and medications can safely and effectively reduce inflammation in your joints in order to relieve pain and prevent or slow joint damage. Ayurveda gives clinically significant improvement in rheumatoid arthritis.

The line of treatment for RA includes diet and lifestyle modifications; purifying the blood tissue; reducing inflammation in joints; treating early onset of secondary osteoarthritis and strengthening/rejuvenating the affected joints and body.

There are a few medications plus oil therapies that will help the condition. Meet an Ayurveda doctor for a prescription medicine.
