Q: A friend of mine has been diagnosed with lichen planus. What is this condition and can it be treated by homepathic medications? Could you throw some light on this disease?

A: Lichen planus is an autoimmune, chronic, inflammatory, and non-infectious condition of the skin, which is characterised by flat reddish to purplish eruptions anywhere on the body. In the case of lichen planus affecting the mouth or genitals, it may appear as ulcers or erosions.

Lichen planus is a stubborn disease. It not only affects the skin, but can also affect the mouth (the inner side of the cheeks, tongue, gums, and palate), scalp, nails, and the private parts (genitals).

The causes of lichen planus is unknown, but it could be due to hepatitis C infection, other viral livers conditions, side effects of medications used to treat blood pressure, diabetes, heart conditions, malaria, metal fillings in your teeth and stress.

Lichen planus is a difficult, chronic and stubborn disease to treat, but with homeopathy, recovery from this skin condition is possible. I have seen very encouraging results.

The scope of homeopathy is varied in different cases of lichen planus. Homeopathy is strongly recommended for the majority of the cases of lichen planus, and should be implemented upon detection of the disease and before use of any steroids (as treatment time after the use of steroids is a bit longer). Since lichen planus is an autoimmune disease, which tends to spread, proper homeopathic treatment will be able to control its further growth/spread.

The duration of homeopathic treatment depends on how long the patient has been suffering from the disease. If the disease is more chronic, a longer treatment duration is needed. If steroids were used for a longer period in any initial treatment, the resultant complex disease becomes a bit challenging condition to reverse.

Stress plays a major role in causative factor and also recovery. Please see a qualified homeopath to help you treat this condition efficiently.
