Five-time Grammy winner Janet Jackson gave birth to her first child, a boy, on Tuesday, January 3.

A statement issued by a rep for the singer said: Janet Jackson and husband Wissam Al Mana are thrilled to welcome their new son Eissa Al Mana into the world. (PEOPLE)

The singer, 50, had announced in April 2016 that she was postponing her Unbreakable world tour so she and her husband, Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana, could focus on starting a family.

On April 6, 2016, Jackson said in a Facebook video: My husband and I are planning our family, so I’m going to have to delay the tour. Please, if you can try and understand that it’s important that I do this now. I have to rest up, doctor’s orders! But I have not forgotten about you. I will continue the tour as soon as I possibly can. (Us Weekly)

Married in 2012, this is the first child for both Al Mana (42) and Jackson.

Jackson was previously married to singer James DeBarge and music video director René Elizondo Jr.
