Hiking, zip lining, camping in Hatta
The third season of Hatta Resorts and Hatta Wadi Hub, one of the UAE’s popular eco-friendly adventure destinations, is on and runs all the way through until April 2021. Take a break from the city and head off to Hatta for some much-needed R&R, not to mention excitement. Take part in activities such as glamping, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, zip-lining, wall climbing, paragliding and also delve into the heritage of Hatta. Hatta hiking trails currently span more than 30km and are spread across five new routes. The trails are divided into different grades of routes to accommodate every level and experience of hiker.
Back by popular demand this year are four new exciting activities: a 10m-tall Climbing Wall with five separate lanes; zip line with dual lines to race 350m across the wadi; slingshot propelling thrill-seekers to heights of 50m at speed, guaranteeing a boost of adrenaline rush; and paragliding to provide visitors with the opportunity to witness the natural beauty of Hatta from a bird’s eye view.
Hatta Hiking Trails, a 32.6km ability-graded set of hiking routes, are available both for free and as guided tours and will remain open all year giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the Hatta mountains up close. The trails, which start from the Hatta Wadi Hub, comprise four colour-coded routes of various difficulty levels, for absolute beginners through to experienced hikers and off-road runners. The routes are Green, Blue, Red and Black, going from easiest to hardest. Together, the Hatta Hiking Trails form the longest sign-posted hiking routes in the UAE.
Complementing the variety of adventure experiences, Hatta Heritage Village, one of the oldest existing Emirati villages in Dubai, has been rebuilt and enhanced to offer a unique local community feel, taking visitors back hundreds of years to interact with authentic Emirati culture. The site includes a Majlis, where locals and visitors come together to share and learn the history of Hatta; boutique shops selling local arts and crafts and Hatta-made honey; a heritage store and a local restaurant called Al Hajarain.
Hatta Resorts is home to the first glamping trailers and eco-friendly mountain lodges in the UAE, with its two distinctive accommodations, Hatta Sedr Trailers and Hatta Damani Lodges, designed to provide a picture-perfect escape. Visitors can also enjoy the option of camping under the stars at the main activity centre, Hatta Wadi Hub, where they can choose to bring their own tents or caravans. Fee for camping experiences start from Dh129. For details, check visithatta.com.

Aventura: nature-led playground for the family
Remember the days when the most important thing was building a tree house or running around with your friends outdoors? As we inhabit an increasingly virtual world – exacerbated by the seismic shift in day-to-day life this year – the desire and craving for nature-based experiences to feel connected to our surroundings is on the rise.
Aventura, a nature-led playground for the entire family, offers an opportunity to escape the ordinary – all set within a safe, socially distanced environment. Led by experienced coaches the new Life Skills programme allows young wannabe explorers to learn, grow and play in the surrounds of a rugged natural desert forest. Starting from Dh699 per week, the programme offers fun and engaging activities for children who want to experience outdoor activities that include physical education, strategic thinking and teamwork. As part of the programme the Aventura Rangers will get the chance to test their climbing, zip-lining and orienteering skills, while learning how to use a compass, build a shelter or preserve water. Details at aventuraparks.com.
