Dubai-based Malhaar Centre for Performing Arts will pay tribute to the renowned Indian lyricist, poet, author, screenwriter, and film director Gulzar, celebrating his birthday week in an online concert.
Malhaar's Baithak will be streamed live on the Facebook page and YouTube channel (MalhaarUAE) on Friday, August 21, at 6pm. Gulzar turned 86 on August 18.
The performance will consist of poetry narrations, trivia, melodious singing accompanied by live instruments and a lot more.
“Gulzar Saab is an institution in himself. It was a tough job to select and finalise the 90-minute line-up for the evening, given his vast repertoire of work,” says Jogiraj Sikidar, founder-director of Malhaar. “The evening's programme will be divided into three segments – classic, contemporary and Gulzar's take on Tagore and Mirza Ghalib's works.”
Malhaar's monthly online Baithak sessions are streamed on their social channels and available for anyone interested in getting a better understanding of Indian music and listening to UAE-based artists perform.
Every session of Baithak has a theme, from Sufi to Ghazal and Bollywood music.
