Cheap thrills

It’s back, it’s better and it’s cheaper! Today, IMG Worlds of Adventure is flinging open its gates to UAE residents for the price of just Dh20. Yes, you can rub shoulders with your favourite Marvel and CN superheroes for the price of four shawarmas. Besides a reduced flat entry rate, the limited offer also lets you pick your thrills with a pay-as-you-go pricing that lets you hop on the rides of your choice for just Dh25 each.

Crank up the coolness factor by chilling with family at the park’s ice rink – it’s now open to the little ones too. If you prefer your high-octane day out at a theme park to be all-inclusive, the UAE Resident Offer gets you unlimited rides access for Dh175 per person. Visit imgworlds.com.

Please laugh inside your mask

After months of resigning ourselves to virtual performances and shows, here’s the chance to enjoy some well-deserved IRL entertainment. Mask On Comedy – Dubai’s first post Covid-19 live comedy show – kicks off at The Junction today! It’s part of the 23rd edition of the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) initiative to reintroduce live events and shows into our everyday lives. While you’re masked and sat in socially distanced seats, Dubai-based comedians Arzoo Malhotra, Tabarak Razvi, Maher Barwany and Miqdaad Dohadwala will take to the stage with four hilarious stories that will leave you with tears in your eyes (from laughing, of course).

Mini chefs in training

Japanese restaurant chain Wagamama has re-launched their kids’ cooking classes at the Palm Jumeirah and Abu Dhabi Mall restaurants. Not only will your kids keep busy but your kitchens stay free after months of baking sessions to keep bored children busy. The 90-minute sessions will be run by a Wagamama chef every Friday and Saturday morning from 11am to 12.30pm and is designed for kids between three and 11 years old.

Children will have hands-on learning of healthy and nutritious ingredients, food preparation and cooking techniques, and all-important health and safety procedures. The result? Your child will have learned to whip up a refreshing Wagamama juice, and a dish from the Wagamama kids’ menu such as the chicken katsu curry or the mini yaki soba. Dh50 per child; visit www.wagamama.ae for details.

The power of flowers

After all that this year has put us through, we all deserve some flowers. Even if we have to make the bouquets ourselves. Flower shop Plaisir Cadeaux et Fleurs has launched summer flower workshops to teach you just how to do that. Conducted by Plaisir Cadeaux et Fleurs founder Mandy McMechan, the daily workshops are by appointment only and will equip you with the tricks and tips on the art of floral arrangement.

A mixture of fresh seasonal flowers and all the tools required to create your arrangement will be provided at the session, which will be conducted at the flower shop’s Al Thanya boutique. As a bonus, you also get to take your arrangement home. The cost of the session also includes light refreshments. Dh550 per person. Choose from three sessions available at 11am, 3pm and 6.30pm. Call 04 258 4747 or email info@plaisircadeaux.com.

Motion picture on wheels

What was once the start to your weekend at the movies – entering the car – is now going to be the entire movie experience. It’s back to the eighties’ drive-in cinema at Yas Island, where Yas Drive In Cinema, the purpose-built venue at Yas Marina Circuit created with Reel Cinemas, will be showing Gravity, Ready Player One and A Star is Born today. Next week, catch The Great Gatsby, Horrible Bosses and Shazam! The movie’s soundtrack will be played through a dedicated radio channel you can tune into from your car stereo.

Supplied

But here’s the best part: popcorn, chocolate, soft drinks and water are included in the price, which is Dh160 per vehicle. When you do the math, it’s a bargain compared to a regular day at the movies for two. Plus, social distancing? We’re sold. Doors will open at 7pm and films will begin from 8pm, with entrance to the Drive In Cinema via the East Gate. Visit yasmarinacircuit.com.
