There’s still time to get to The Mother of the Nation Festival before its fourth edition comes to a close Saturday. The A’l Bahar Corniche at Abu Dhabi is a humdrum of activities and events as part of the festival that celebrates Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak and her values such as happiness and progress. From music to magic shows and arts and crafts, you can take your pick of entertainment for the weekend.
Catch the Walid Show — The Laser Man, which combines technology, dance, and interactive light shows, a magic show by Adrian Hurley Magic, and LED parade of lit stilt walkers, drummers, hula hoop artists and jugglers. Today’s highlight though, is a performance by international DJ Nicky Romero at 10pm today. But topping that explosive lineup is the fireworks competition that the festival is hosting — the pyrotechnics tonight will be courtesy South Korea’s Bisabeol Fireworks (8.15pm) and tomorrow Australia’s Xplosive Art will end the competition with a bang at 9.45pm. Beach festival Club Social will be back for a second time at Yas Island on March 29 and 30. Gigs by British band Bastille (Rhythm of the Night) and Egyptian duo Oka Wi Ortega of ‘Elaab Yalla’ fame are the only ticketed events at the fest, which is otherwise packed to the rafters with free activities — try fitness classes such as boxing by Punch Studio, Zumba lesosns by Mariyam Lari and capoeira by Associação Lagoa Azul Capoeira; restaurant pop-ups by Clinton Street Bakery and Dubai-born pizzeria C’est Cheesee, and fashion and jewellery stalls. Unlock your inner potential through a session of Deep Healing through Mindfulness with Ishan Shivanand founder of ShivYog. The holistic self-improvement programme uses meditative awakening and powerful mindfulness techniques to tap into an individual’s strengths. You could hike out all the way to London to catch Arsenal at the Emirates stadium, or you could just witness them lock horns with home-grown football club Al Nasr during at a friendly match in the Al Maktoum Stadium on March 26. Indian hip-hop stars Badshah and Raftaar will be performing at Global Village today in celebration of Holi — the Indian festival of colour. The concert will see the duo perform a string of dance hits such as Heartless and Sare Karo Dab at the mainstage. Tickets to the concert are included in your Dh15 entry ticket to Global Village.

Bollywood playback singer Shreya Ghoshal’s mellifluous voice will echo through Bollywood Parks on March 29.
