The UAE's Hazza Ali Al Mansoori is one of the three latest space travelers as he joins Nasa astronaut Jessica Meir and Oleg Skripochka of the Russian space agency Roscosmos in a spaceflight to the International Space Station (ISS). The Soyuz spacecraft that will take them to the ISS is set to launch at 5:56 p.m. UAE time today.

The launch will take place at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, where in April 1969 Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin launched to space to become the first man in space.

Also in Kazakhstan is Sultan Al Neyadi, the Emirati astronaut who is part of the reserve crew that also includes Russian commander Sergey Ryzhikov and Thomas Marshburn from Nasa.

Al Mansoori is representing the UAE in space as the 19th visiting country to the ISS and its 240th visitor.
