Tribute to Manna Dey
Dubai-based Malhaar Centre for Performing Arts will pay tribute to Manna Dey, one of the greatest playback singers of the sub-continent, while his protégé and close family friend Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam will join Malhaar team from the Indian city of Bengaluru, as she remembers her friend, philosopher and guide.
Malhaar’s Baithak will be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube channels – MalhaarUAE, today at 7.30pm. A renowned Bollywood singer herself, Kavita will recollect some beautiful moments from Manna Dey’s life, while Malhaar artists will perform a few timeless compositions by the icon. Manna Dey made his debut in 1942 with Tamanna and went on to record more than 4,000 songs. He was also honoured with Padma Shri in 1971. "This edition of Baithak is the realisation of a dream as I get the opportunity to discuss Manna Da’s work and life with Kavita," said Jogiraj Sikidar, founder-director of Malhaar.
Banksy’s works in dubai
Fans of street artist Banksy, whose works such as Girl with a Balloon and Mobile Lovers have earned him elite art status, can now see some of his most loved pieces on display in Dubai, as the travelling exhibition ‘The World of Banksy – The Immersive Experience’ has arrived The Theatre, in Mall of the Emirates. Movie at Cinema Akil
Cinema Akil is showing Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania’s The Man Who Sold His Skin. The Academy Award-nominated movie tells the tale of a Syrian refugee living in Lebanon, whose dream is to travel to Europe and be reunited with his lover. Based on a true story, this was nominated for Best International Feature Film at this year’s Academy Awards. Showing until Wednesday May 5; tickets Dh56.50. The film stars Syrian actor Yahya Mahayni, French actress Dea Liane, Belgian actor Koen De Bouw and Italian superstar Monica Bellucci.
