Keep calm and Goan

The Indian state of Goa is synonymous with a good time, and Sharjah’s Goan community is keeping that flag flying with a grand feast on June 28 — the Summer Fest 2019 at the Ajman Beach hotel. While Goans back in India will celebrate the feast of St. John with the unique jumping into wells, their compatriots will be making a splash here in the UAE with a lavish buffet lunch, music and games for both the young and old, dancing contests and fancy dress competitions for kids. From 11am-7pm; for passes, call 050 784 5777.

Girl talk

Girl talk is far from frivolous at W Hotel’s What She Said series — a networking and speaking initiative for women. The event returns to Dubai on June 25 with a conversation centred on the business of clothes and fashion. The panelists this time are Zayan Ghandour, co-founder of Dubai’s first successful multi-brand fashion concept store, S*uce Boutique; designer Khulood Thani of BINT THANI; Nez Gebreel a fashion and design consultant; Safiya Abdallah a fashion designer and founder of Dulce By Safiya, and Caroline Labouchere, Dubai’s first grey-haired international model. These women will discuss the transformation of the region’s fashion and design through their personal stories and through the lens of leading trends in the fashion world, from the use of sustainable fabrics to trends.

Face the music

Nouvelle Vague

Dip into some refreshing sounds at Parisian music ensemble, Nouvelle Vague’s (New Wave) performance on June 25. The band, currently on their 15th anniversary tour, is known for their eclectic covers of sixties’ and seventies’ punk new wave music — such as The Undertones’ Teenage Kicks and Depeche Mode’s Just Can’t Get Enough — reimagined in languid Bossa Nova rhythms from the fifties and sixties. Tickets from Dh150 at; show starts at 8pm.

Season 8 of the Emirates NBD Classics concert series will see the Ustad Shujaat Khan Collective — a classical blend of Sufi, Ghazal & Folk Music premiere at the Dubai Opera on Saturday. The show will feature Hindustani classical music legend Ustad Shujaat Khan. The Grammy-nominated musician will be accompanied on stage by Azaan Khan on acoustic guitar and vocals, Anil Chawla on keyboard, Aveleon Giles Vaz on drums, Makrand Sanon and Sarthak Pahwa on percussions and Danik Ghosh on bass. Tickets from Dh100 at; show starts at 8pm.

Dancing Queens, time to find your sea legs and boogie aboard the QE2 where the tribute concert ABBA Reunion is happening on June 26 and 27. The show is the brainchild of director, producer, and choreographer of the award-winning West End production ABBAMANIA and will star the singer who plays lead singer Frida in the musical. Brace yourself for stunning costumes, choreography and vocals that’ll recreate the Swedish pop idols’ disco vibes down to every glittery note. From 8pm-10pm at Theatre by QE2; tickets cost Dh200 at

You’ve cheered them on the small screen, now do it on in person when Indian reality show participants from shows like The Voice India Kids and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs rock the stage at Shaikh Rashid Auditorium, Indian High School Dubai on June 27. Singers Neelanjana Ray, Nitin Kumar and Salman Ali will keep audiences entertained with their renditions of popular Bollywood numbers. Tickets from Dh100 at
