As all the back-to-school fever kicks in this week, catch some old school lovin’ at a screening of the Hindi play Chuhal (mirth) today at The Junction. Directed by actor-director Manav Kaul (last seen in the Bollywood films Tumhari Sulu and Badla), the romantic-comedy play recreates the nostalgia of love and romance in a small town of India in the early nineties through the unusual story of Sudhir and Aarti, who might be in love, through a series of playful banter and light-hearted insightful conversations. Leading life coach and business strategist Tony Robbins’s motivational seminar Achieving The Unimaginable will happen at the Coca Cola Arena, Dubai on September 3. There’s no sale you need to rush to, it’s just the The Cigna Park run back for its September edition. The untimed, free community race is swapping the humid outdoors for the air-conditioned halls of Ibn Battuta Mall on September 7. The race, which takes place on the first Saturday of every month, aims to promote fitness and well-being and is open to runners of all levels from rank beginners to seasoned sprinters, so you can round up family and friends and make it fun day out (followed by some retail therapy). Dubai Opera and the Shanghai Opera House have teamed up to showcase Puccini’s final creation, Turandot from September 5-7. Set in ancient Peking, the final composition of the legendary Italian composer revolves around the story of the hard-to-please Princess Turandot who has invited probable suitors to solve three riddle to win her hand in marriage. A clever prince does manage to solve all of Princess Turandot’s riddles but gives her a run for her money with a riddle of his own – the mystery of his name. Movie night for kids

Before homework occupies all their time, take the kids for a screening of the adventure-comedy German film The Pasta Detectives, which showing at Cinema Akil this month. Based on Andreas Steinhofel’s eponymous best-selling novel, the film is about the incredible friendship between 10-year-old Rico, an optimist with learning difficulties, and the incredibly gifted Oskar who is unexpectedly kidnapped. What ensues is an adventure Niko sets off on to rescue friend. The film explores sensitive themes through quick-witted dialogue. Indian comic Karunesh Talwar will be performing at Bollywood Parks, Dubai on September 6. VDesi Laughs, the homegrown comedy collective, is hosting a battle of wits – the Comedy World Cup on September 4 at The Clavichord, Signature 1 Hotel at Barsha Heights. The comedy competition will see eight comics from eight different countries take to the stage for 10 minutes each – the wittiest of the lot, with the best comic timing will take home the title of the funniest person.
