treats for Chocoholics!

Treats for Chocoholics!

Treat, not trick, your family this
Halloween with frightfully delicious offerings from Alison Nelson’s Chocolate Bar. The impressive à la carte menu has everything from salads and soups to sandwiches and pasta. But the highlights are mouth-watering desserts such as The Big Dig (chocolate and vanilla ice cream, served with pound cake chunks) and Chocolate Bar NY Fondue (served with marshmallows, cake, banana and strawberry pieces to dip). Yum! You can even buy cakes to take home – and trick guests into thinking you made them! Open from 10am to 11pm, at The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and Mercato Mall. Expect to pay around Dh200 for a three-course meal and Dh100 for a child (main and dessert).

Smart hybrid

Who needs to carry a bulky camera around when you can take amazing pictures and HD videos with your mobile? The Samsung Galaxy K’s zoom lens retracts into the phone’s slim body when you’re not using it. Another bonus is a long battery life. Dh1,999, available at major electronic retailers across the UAE.

Artful anniversary

Art lovers will be interested to know one of Dubai’s oldest art galleries is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The Majlis was opened by English expat Alison Collins in her former home in the Old Al Fahidi District (Bastakiya) on November 2, 1989. To mark the occasion, 40 artists who have worked with the gallery previously are creating a unique installation called 25 Squared. They will paint pieces sized exactly 25x25cm, which will then all be hung together. It will be on display from tomorrow until December 31. See www.themajlisgallery.com.

Something to show off

This gorgeous peacock bag harks back to the glamour of the roaring 1920s and features faux diamonds, but it looks as though it could be the real deal. This glitzy clutch is part of Shoe Mart’s amazing collection, featuring bags, shoes and hair accessories. We can’t wait to be seen flaunting this at the next party we get invited to. It’s a steal at Dh125, Shoe Mart stores across the UAE.

Beauty at your fingertips

You’re sure to be nuts about the Almond mani/pedicure at Tips & Toes Salon in Business Bay. Your feet will be exfoliated, smothered in almond cream, then covered with hot towels to lock in moisture. Next, you’ll be treated to a massage to boost circulation. A regular spa mani/pedi routine – cleaning, shaping, buffing and polish – follows. The almond cream leaves your skin super-soft and hydrated, not to mention smelling sweet! Dh240 for 90 minutes.

Vamp up your breakfast

Vampires might have to wait until the sun goes down before celebrating Halloween, but you can start early. Kick-start the festivities with a spooky-themed breakfast at Urban Bar and Kitchen, or UBK for short, at the Mövenpick Hotel in JLT. The Halloween Big Breakfast features sausages and veal bacon, eggs of your choice, portobello mushrooms, baked beans and juice, tea or coffee. Served from 9.30am to 12.30pm, it will cost Dh75 per person, with children below the age of six eating for free.

The Aussie way

Escape the city noise for the relaxed Australian-inspired surroundings of Bushman’s Restaurant and Bar, tucked away in Anantara Dubai The Palm Resort and Spa. The venue recently introduced the Bushman’s Saturday Lazy Lunch, which boasts a variety of authentic dishes from Down Under. Succumb to the laid-back vibe as you enjoy the food from the grazing stations. Then choose your main course from the special à la carte menu and tuck into it while enjoying live entertainment. Every Saturday from 1pm to 5pm. Dh200 per person including soft drinks.

Put your best
foot forward

We’re loving these stylish, strappy sandals from DSquared. The tri-strap is a gorgeous feature and bright yellow is a trend set to last through to next year. They’re a great investment as you can dress them up with a pretty dress or down with jeans for a chic laid-back look. Dh2,590, DSquared.

Spine-chilling thrills

For a spine-tingling encounter this Halloween why not visit the Haunted Height at the Wild Wadi water park? Take a walk through the crooked old house, trying not to scream at the ghostly encounters that lurk in the dark. If you can’t handle the chilling thrills, or you have young children, you can go Trick or Treating – visitors get free candy. The shows are on every day from 1pm to 6pm until November 8. Dh295 (over 1.1m) and Dh235 (under 1.1m). Call 04 348 4444 or visit www.jumeirah.com.
