Pretty peepers

Living in the UAE with sunshine 24/7, we need to protect our eyes from harmful UV rays. That’s also a great
excuse for a brand new fashion accessory. We’re
loving these cool shades from the latest Valentino Eyewear collection inspired by 1960s bug-eyed glamour. The thick oversized frames are so retro! Dh1,890, Valentino boutiques and Paris Gallery.

Basket case

Celebrate Loy Krathong, an annual Thai festival of lights held annually on Thailand’s 12th lunar month (November) at Dusit Thani Dubai and Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi.
Loy Krathong translates as “to float a basket” and stems from the tradition of making buoyant, decorated baskets float on water. Dusit Thani’s Benjarong restaurant is serving up a specially designed set menu featuring authentic Thai cuisine like khao pad gai rue phak (fried rice with chicken or vegetables) and khao niew mamuang (sticky rice with mango) on banana leaves, all by candlelight. Diners in Dubai who spend over Dh300 on lunch or dinner this month will be entered into a raffle and be in with the chance to win a trip to Thailand. Call 02 698 8137 (Abu Dhabi) and 04 317 4515 (Dubai) or visit for more information.

Take stock

A decade ago people would stand in endless lines outside Birkenstock stores to get their hands on a coveted pair of white sliders. After a stint in the fashion wilderness Birkenstocks are now keep-forever classics – combining natural materials for made-to-last comfort. Thanks to new studded, metallic and glittery designs you’ll be standing in line again before you know it. Available at Birkenstock stores.

The Fujifilm

Fujifilm’s telephoto lens weighs 995g, making it the heavyweight of the Fujinon X Series, but you’ll get clear, crisp images in return for cherishing it over a compact. The XF50-140mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR lens features a high-performance gyro sensor and a Triple Linear Motor for fast, quiet autofocusing. Great for close-ups and action shots. It is weather- and dust-resistant. Price on request. Available at Grand Stores and leading electronic shops.

Brighten up your eyes

If, like us, you’re used to burning the candle at both ends, you’ll be familiar with puffy eyes and dark circles. Fret not! Dab a dollop of Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado around your eyes twice daily to refresh and gently moisturise your blinkers. In fact, your skin will feel instantly smoother. Dh150, Kiehl’s stores and counters.

Pit-stop party

You can also enjoy an exquisite three-course Japanese dinner. Fuel up, then burn tracks on the dance floor. Tickets from Dh350. VIP Tables from Dh6,000. Call 055 309 5495 or visit
