Over and above
Psst, we’ve found our new favourite menu in Dubai – Above & Below at Nine7One, The Oberoi. It’s a play on surf and turf, so expect meaty treats as well as top-notch seafood dishes. We loved the aptly named Charred Treasure dish – Hokkaido scallops with kumquat chutney wrapped neatly in a charred bamboo leaf. And the stone-grilled lamb with yogurt and stone-baked pitta is succulent deliciousness. The deep-fried mochi ice cream and spicy chocolate dessert (soft-centred chocolate with chilli) are a must-try. From Dh320 per person for three courses. Call 04 444 1407 or email email@example.com.
We had a list of excuses ready to get out of our new year fitness regime. Until we saw these shoes from Reebok’s One Series. Not only do they look great, they are also lightweight with added support and flexibility, ensuring a soft landing. Now we can’t wait to get to the nearest jogging track to show them off. Dh475 at Reebok stores across the UAE.
Keep your tresses healthy with Kevin Murphy’s new repairing and deep conditioning treatment masques. Apply a generous amount to washed hair and gently massage it in. For maximum benefit, wrap your hair in a warm towel and let the masque penetrate deeply. Enriched with rose hip, the masque boosts shine to give you a great-looking mane. Dh160, at Marquee salon.

From Paris with love

Time to streamline your arm luggage ladies and ditch that overstuffed tote for the new year. We’ve already got our eye on The Lanvin Sugar bag. In fact, we can’t possibly live without the gorgeous grey snakeskin shoulder bag decorated with hand-stitched metal beads and a gold chain strap. There goes our January pay cheque! Price upon request. Available at Lanvin boutique, The Dubai Mall.
OK, so temperatures aren’t exactly arctic outside, but it’s definitely cooler. And that doesn’t mean your sun-kissed glow has to fade. Simply book yourself in at Pastels Salon for a Vita Liberata Rapid, a speedy spray-tan treatment. It’s so good we couldn’t believe it when our therapist told us we could shower after 90 minutes without fear of streaking. And it’s only Dh210 and takes just 30 minutes. Call 04 388 3534 (Pastels Jumeirah), 04 399 5016 (The Ritz-Carlton Dubai Marina) and 04 344 7883 (Mercato Mall) or visit www.pastels-salon.com.
Let out your inner animal instinct with super-cool leggings from Teeki, an environmentally driven Californian label that works hard to ensure you look good and the world is looked after. Believe it or not the leggings – which fit like a second skin – are made out of recycled plastic bottles. Sustainable style, we love. Dh339, available at TheHotBoxKit.com.
