The region’s first commercial Via Ferrata (Iron Path) was tested by Friday’s art editor, Mark Setchfield, who climbed, trekked and zip-lined the challenge set against Jebel Jais. Joining him were Haitham Mattar, the CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA), and Emirati adventurers Huda Zowayed and Hamad Al Mazrouey.

Watch them in action here:

The adventurers have a choice between three different routes. Ledge Walk is the easiest and will approximately take four hours for a group of eight people to complete. The Middle Path is the technical route and will take about 3.5 hours to complete and includes three vertical sections and a horizontal traverse. The final and the direct route (1.5 hours) to the long zip-line is the Julphar Scare.

Via Ferrata is now open to public and costs Dh400. Bookings can be made at www.jebeljais.ae.
